Title: Customized Report in SAP for Inventory Management & Control which can be easily shared among colleagues

The application is unlimited for generating customized reports from SAP as it depends on the nature of business for inventory management as different industry has different material characteristics. Hence, any firms running business using SAP ERP, here is what I like to illustrate in this article the opportunities lies ahead to extract data in 1 single customized report by joining multiple SAP tables together instead of running SAP standard reports using common transaction code (ie: MC.A, MB52) that has limited sets of field names. With this customized report, it allows more varied choices of field names which suits your preference by making input into selection criteria.

Objective: Achieving and optimizing efficiency and effectiveness to acquire data from SAP ERP for analysis, to suit individual inventory management requirements.

The standard reports in SAP (ie: MC.A, MB52) are often limited to only certain fields such that it may not fit to certain business requirement where we cannot personalize it to out requirement. For example, transaction code: MB52 can display SLED (Shelf-Life expiration) values for any batch/lot to assess lots which are near-expiring or already expired.

1) Inventory Management (as an illustration purpose to generate customized report in SAP)

With this customized report, the near expiring material can be computed by performing difference between current date and date of manufacture (Manufacture Date.) for the material based on the entry that been been made during Goods Receipt against Order using transaction: MIGO , Mvt Type: 101

Goods receipt (GR) against Order

  • This customized report can be generated without any programming skills or without additional installation of SAP BW (Business Warehousing) software. Within SAP ECC, it allows any supply chain/inventory analyst to query & extract valuable information of materials that requires inventory management for the respective Plant/Material.

2) Extended view beyond SAP transaction code: MB52 (Warehouse Stock of Materials)

(as an illustration to generate another customized report in SAP)

Using SAP transaction : MMBE , reserved quantity for a material in a plant and storage location is limited to display for ONE / single material only instead of multiple list of materials.

  • Limitation of Standard SAP transaction: MB52 / MMBE

Although SAP Tcode: MB52 have the stock inventory details including unrestricted quantity, QI stock and Blocked Stock for multiple list of materials/batches, it does not display the reserved stock quantity.

So how can we overcome if we like to view the list of materials with field names (ie: unrestricted, blocked, Quality Inspection, Reserved) Quantity yet this reserved quantity does not appear in SAP transaction: MB52?

net inventory available quantity = unrestricted quantity — reserved quantity — blocked stock quantity — Quality inspection quantity

With this customized inventory control report, it provides quick ease of calculation to determine the net inventory availability after subtracting the unrestricted stock with reserved, blocked stock, quality inspection.

In conclusion, an inventory customized reporting in SAP which does not require any programming, it overcomes the limitation of SAP Tcode: MB52, MMBE to determine multiple materials/batches characteristics unrestricted quantity, QI stock and Blocked Stock, Return stock & stock reservation.

3)

For any production management purpose of tracking material Goods Receipts (GR) & Goods Issue (GI) to track consumption, typically most firms would use SAP transaction code: MB51, which requires knowledge by recognizing the movement type.

However, an alternative method is to generate this SAP customized report which also captures statistics of stocks movement as shown on the top of the image below, that any Stock receipts Quantity & Usage Quantity without having to recognize the movement type unlike SAP Transaction: MB51.

In this report, it’s pretty straight-forward and intuitive to tell the Stock Receipts Quantity, Usage Quantity.

4) The best part of this, this report can be super quickly share between between colleagues by providing them the report name shown as Assigned report “AQTGSYSTQV000047Z_BKORD_PROC” as an example/illustration.
